Seeking Volunteers for STEM Scouts at NTC – Antigo Campus

I wanted to take a moment to tell you about an exciting program at Northcentral Technical College Antigo Campus.

STEM Scouts is a coed pilot program that is designed to focus on the fun and exciting opportunities for youth in science, technology, engineering, and math. Through weekly meetings and four to six week modules that cover a variety of disciplines, STEM Scouts is designed to be fast-paced, thought provoking, and fun. The program will show youth how to apply STEM in their everyday lives and encourage them to develop those experiences into a future career.

In 2015, the Samoset Council launched STEM Scouts in Central Wisconsin with great success. In the first year over 250 kids participated in STEM Scouts! Last year there were over 350 youth so the program keeps growing!

We are continuing the STEM Scouts Elementary and Middle Schools Labs at NTC after a fantastic year last year, but we need to identify individuals that could be Lab Managers and Associate Lab Managers. These are some exciting volunteer opportunities! Adult Lab Managers and Associate Lab Managers will lead STEM Scout Labs and we encourage STEP (Short Term Experienced Professionals) volunteers to help mentor STEM Scouts, lead special labs, and host field trips. While there are great opportunities for STEM professionals, there are plenty of volunteer positions for adults without STEM experience. Volunteers receive all the training, an easy curriculum to follow, and supplies they will need to effectively run the program from the Boy Scouts of America. We have created a strong support group for our leaders so don’t hesitate get involved! We have elementary kids just waiting to start all you need is two great volunteers!

If you would be interested in volunteering please email stemscouts@samoset.org or give Amanda Flannery a call at 715-409-6690. In the meantime, feel free to check out the STEM Scouts website at STEMScouts.org to learn more about the program. To check out a current lab visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ievNLBEL9x4

Thank you for considering becoming a STEM Scouts volunteer.
